COVENT GARDEN

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac will be creating a series of live illustrations on Covent Garden’s
mesmerising mirror installation, Reflect London, on Wednesday 6th July, to officially launch a
new series of late night shopping events in the district.
Better known as JCDC, the famed fashion designer and artist will transform the area with an
array of pop-art inspired murals full of poetry, each expressingwith his inimitable style.
Visitors to Covent Garden’s famous Piazza will be able to watch JCDC sketch the
illustrations live from 8:30am on Wednesday 6th July. Fans of JCDC’s work will also have an
opportunity to meet him in person and learn more about the campaign.
The live installation forms part of ‘Covent Garden After Hours’, a new series of late night
shopping events throughout July for which JCDC designed the visual identity. A new
illustrated logo and map of the area bring to life the colourful face of London’s most unique
shopping district, which visitors can shop ‘after hours’ this July.
JCDC, commented: “As a designer and an artist, I’ve always loved blending fashion with art.
Covent Garden is the same: a place where fashion, culture, theatre and performance all
collide. I’m excited that one of my favourite cities, London, will soon be the next canvas for
my work.”
Beverley Churchill, Creative Director of Capco Covent Garden, said: “JCDC mixes fashion
with art, design, music, film, performance and theatre - all the things Covent Garden is
famous for. He is the perfect artist to help us bring #CGAfterHours to life”.
Every year, Covent Garden’s cultural programme transforms the Piazza into an open air art
gallery. Previous commissions include the French artist Charles Pétillon, who filled the
Market Building with 100,000 balloons last year, and Alex Chinneck, who unveiled a floating
building on the Piazza. Covent Garden has also worked with luminaries including Jeff Koons
and Damien Hirst.
‘Covent Garden After Hours’will see many of the area’s stores stay open later on
Wednesdays through Saturdays throughout July. As the likes of Charlotte Tilbury, Sandro
and Hackett keep their doors open until 9pm, Covent Garden will come alive with even more
food, drink, live music, art, fashion and beauty over a series of late night shopping events on
Thursdays.
Highlights include the first ever street food offerings from Frenchie, Balthazar Boulangerie
and LIMA Floral, a gin bar from Portobello Road Gin, make up masterclasses and brand
offers from the likes of kikki.K, Karen Millen and Kate Spade.
